Luke Martineau
Luke Martineau (b. 1970) trained at the Heatherley School of Fine Art in London, having studied English and
Modern Languages as an undergraduate at Magdalen College (1989-93).
Luke’s involvement with St Peter’s College began in 2012 when he was approached to paint a series of pictures to
help raise funds for the Foundation. This summer he has produced another and significantly larger collection of
paintings, inspired not just by the buildings of the College and Oxford, but by college life itself. His aim has been
to celebrate the wider and long-lasting collegiate qualities of SPC: friendship, conversation, and the camaraderie of
shared sporting endeavour.
Luke has been painting professionally for 30 years, dividing his time between landscape and portrait work. His
travels with his easel and brushes have taken him from the banks of the river Barle on Exmoor to Cambodia and
Hong Kong, from Venice to New York, and to India, where in 2010 he accompanied Their Royal Highnesses The
Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall as official Tour Artist. This summer he has had work on show at
Buckingham Palace in ‘The Art of Royal Travel’, a retrospective exhibition of all HM King Charles’ tour artists of
the past 40 years. He has work in many private and public collections, including Fishmongers Hall, the Hurlingham
Club, Eton College, the Middle Temple and the Royal Collection. Luke was President of Chelsea Art Society from
2014 until 2022.
